Small early carved oak chair Sold
A small oak chair or back stool.
The shaped cresting rail is beautifully carved and with punch-work decoration to the back ground. The chair has a baluster shaped back splat which has a carved channel through the centre and the two side uprights are also carved and moulded. The seat is fixed with its original wooden pegs above a base with turned front legs and stretcher.
The whole chair has a wonderful untouched colour, it is rich and dark overall but beautifully worn in places where it has been used, such as the seat, front stretcher and top rail.
We have had a number of early oak chairs and this example is smaller than usual and it is possible that it was made for a child.
