Welsh cabinet on chest Sold
A wonderful and unusual Welsh oak cabinet on chest, made from well figured oak with mahogany cross-banding. A striking piece with wonderful colour and patina.
This cabinet on chest is an unusual design – but not uncommon in Wales. The base as a chest of drawers was possibly the more important consideration to the original customer and was probably used to store linen and clothes. The top section because of low ceilings in many Welsh farmhouses had to be made a smaller proportion to accommodate the room height.
